Shane Wilkinson

Hello, I’m Shane and I’m the senior content editor both here at DrivingElectric and at our sister title Auto Express. Although I can trace my professional roots back to the radio and podcasting world, my passion (or borderline obsession) with cars saw me switch over to motoring journalism in 2021. From the very start I have been fortunate enough to try out the latest and greatest electric cars on the market.

Before starting out with DrivingElectric and Auto Express, I, like many people, found the brand-new era of electric cars to be a confusing and sometimes even intimidating one. However, I have since built my expertise and I’m proud to share it with readers like you in order to help you learn, understand and ultimately make the right electric car-buying decisions.

Shane Wilkinson electric car Q&A

What’s the best thing about electric cars?

“Electric cars are the next big chapter in the automotive world, and there have been few (if any) other motoring innovations that have had such a massive impact across the entire globe in recent decades. Reduced emissions, technological innovation, mind-boggling performance… the list of reasons to be excited just goes on and on.”

What was your first electric car experience?

“A Porsche Taycan Turbo and a private test track. You don’t need me to tell you what happened next, but what I will say is that I was blown away by the instant acceleration. There’s obviously a lot more to EVs than pure power, but this was certainly an ideal start.”

What one piece of advice would you give to electric car buyers?

“Keep an open mind and do your research. There are countless debates online about the pros and cons of electric cars, and while some of these are factual, it’d be ill-advised to make any decision based on what you’ve read on social media. Instead, ask yourself if an electric car will work for you, figure out things like what you’ll actually use it for and how far you’ll be travelling on a regular basis. Once you have those answers, do your additional research via a reputable source. Actually, you’re reading this page so you’ve clearly already found one!”
