Outside of more premium offerings from the likes of BMW, Volkswagen and even Porsche, there’s currently not a great deal of competition in the all-electric estate market. Sitting alongside its closely related Stellantis sibling, the Peugeot E-308 SW, the Vauxhall’s Astra Sports Tourer Electric only has to contend with the keenly priced MG5 EV in the battle for customers who are prioritising family practicality and zero-emissions motoring.

The Astra Sports Tourer Electric delivers plenty of positives, although we’ve previously raised the issue of its relatively hefty price tag – particularly when compared with Tesla and the increasing amount of battery-powered cars from newer Chinese brands. However, this two-year PCH (Personal Contract Hire) offer from Leasing Options easily overcomes that concern. After an initial payment of £2,339.27, you’ll need to find just £169.94 each month to put a model in top-of-the-range Ultimate trim on your driveway, although the deal does restrict you to 5,000 miles a year.

You certainly won’t be short of standard equipment; 18-inch diamond-cut alloys, high gloss black roof rails, rear privacy glass and IntelliLux adaptive LED pixel headlights help to enhance the Tourer’s already handsome styling, while you’ll appreciate the extra luxury touches such as the eight-way, electrically adjustable driver’s seat, a heated windscreen, front seats and steering wheel, a panoramic sunroof, a power tailgate, wireless smartphone charging, a head-up display and a 10-inch infotainment touchscreen with integrated navigation.

The Astra Tourer features wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, too; it really is a fantastically well-equipped family car.

As well as its spacious cabin and decent 516-litre boot, the electric Astra estate is actually pretty good to drive and certainly more capable through the corners than its MG5 rival. With a total output of 156bhp, it produces a respectable 0-62mph time of 9.2 seconds, although the only way to access full power is to select the Sport drive mode.

You might not think that these figures are particularly exciting, but we found performance to be acceptable, with the real bonus being the noticeable improvement in refinement, smoothness and responsiveness when compared with the petrol model. The Tourer’s claimed maximum all-electric range of up to 260 miles rounds off an impressive family EV package,
