Running costs for the DS 7 E-TENSE are a bit of a mixed bag. Your fuel costs will be minimal if you can charge up at home and mostly do short local journeys, and if you're running one as a company car, your Benefit-in-Kind bill will be a lot less than what you'd pay to run a large petrol or diesel SUV. Ranged against that must be the car's pretty high list price and monthly finance costs for private buyers, along with fairly unremarkable servicing and insurance rates, which are in line with those of many other large SUVs.

DS 7 E-TENSE insurance group

DS doesn't yet have the premium brand recognition of German rivals like Audi and BMW, which may go some way towards explaining why the DS 7 E-TENSE will be slightly cheaper to insure than the likes of the Audi Q5 hybrid. That car falls into insurance groups 40 to 43, whereas the DS is in groups 37 to 39, so premiums should be a bit less.

Warranty

The DS 7 gets the standard warranty cover applied to cars from all Stellantis brands, namely three years or 60,000 miles. More down-to-earth brands like Toyota and Kia do better, with five and seven-year guarantees respectively, but the DS' cover is pretty much standard for the industry and tallies with the typical length of a PCP finance deal, so many owners probably won't be too worried.

Servicing

The DS 7 needs a dealer visit once a year or every 10,000 miles – whichever comes first. DS offers fixed-price servicing on all its models, with the first year's check-up costing £249 and the second year's £299. From then on, the minor and major services alternate, costing respectively £225 and £375. These prices were correct as of September 2022.

Road tax

As the government classifies it as an 'alternatively fuelled vehicle', the DS 7 E-TENSE gets a £10 discount on the regular £520 annual VED rate for cars with a list price of more than £40,000. Owners pay £510 the first five times the tax is renewed, and if you still own it after that point, the annual rate drops to £155.
