Jaguar Type 00 finally revealed – dramatic concept maps out British brand’s luxury electric future

Jaguar has revealed the concept car on which its 'reimagining' as a super luxury electric carmaker is based

Unveiled at Miami Art Week, the Jaguar Type 00 puts an end to weeks of controversy around the famous British brand. The concept car is our first proper glimpse of the path the Jaguar Land Rover parent company intends to take Jaguar down.

Pronounced "type zero zero", the car's name acknowledges Jaguar's use of the word 'type' in various models over the decades, with the two zeros referencing the brand's reset to become a zero-emissions car manufacturer. The concept showcases design themes which will make their debut on the first 'new Jaguar' set to be launched next summer. That car will be a Bentley-rivalling four-door GT with a price tag of over £200,000.

The Jaguar Type 00 is a long, low-slung two-seater coupe with an elongated bonnet and bluff front-end – the latter dominated by a nine-slat 'grille' featuring the new "Jaguar" script.

To the side, the profile is fastback-like with clean surfacing and massive 23-inch wheels.

Towards the lower part of the front wings, there are brass ingots that feature the overhauled Jaguar 'leaper' logo. These also pop out to reveal rear-facing cameras. The roofline slopes dramatically to a similarly bold rear-end; there's no rear window for the tailgate and the 'strikeout' slats hide the car’s full-width rear lights so there are no traditional tail light clusters on view.

'Butterfly' doors open to reveal a very minimalist interior. It's dominated by a central spine measuring 3.2 metres and made from brass which splits the dashboard for driver and passenger. Both occupants sit in front of floating screens and beneath a huge glass roof, and they can personalise the interior to suit their mood by inserting totems – brass, Travertine and Alabaster – into the centre console, each of which change the cabin's character.

Jaguar is remaining tight-lipped on the more technical aspects of the Type 00, including where the battery sits. But we already know that the production four-door GT will use the new Jaguar Electric Architecture (JEA), which will also underpin another two cars due by the end of 2028. These are predicted to be large SUV and a saloon. Jaguar is aiming for a 478-mile range for the GT, and a price tag of around £125,000 is expected.
