This is the facelifted Jaguar F-Pace, set to be offered with a plug-in hybrid drivetrain alongside mild-hybrid petrol and diesel engines. Badged P400e in line with Jaguar Land Rover's other plug-in models, the new car is available to order now; prices start at £56,060 and climb to £64,490.

Power comes from a two-litre four-cylinder petrol engine and an electric motor, which together produce 404PS and 640Nm of torque. A 17.1kWh battery is used, which allows for a claimed 33 miles of pure-electric running. Jaguar quotes some decent figures for what is a large luxury SUV – CO2 emissions of 49–52g/km and average fuel consumption of up to 130.2mpg. Four-wheel drive is standard and power is fed through an eight-speed automatic transmission.

As with the majority of plug-in hybrid cars, the F-Pace P400e can be operated in three driving modes. The default 'Hybrid' mode automatically uses power from the petrol engine and/or electric motor as it sees fit to optimise efficiency, 'Save' mode allows the battery to hold onto its charge until required later in journey, and 'EV' mode allows the car to operate exclusively on electric power.

Three levels of charging are supported: 32kW DC fast charging, Mode 3 charging up to 7kW and Mode 2 charging up to 2.3kW. The first of these allows for a 0–80% charge in half an hour, while the second is representative of a home wallbox set-up and takes one hour and 40 minutes to charge to 80%. The slowest charging time takes place over a three-pin domestic supply and takes five and a half hours to get to 80%.

The P400e drivetrain is offered across S, SE and HSE trims, along with R-Dynamic S, SE and HSE. The latter models get their own sportier styling cues inside and out.

Jaguar F-Pace P400e design and technology

Jaguar has given the F-Pace a considerable refresh in the styling department to help it keep pace with rivals like the Audi Q5, BMW X3 and JLR's own Range Rover Velar.

Outside, the F-Pace gets a new larger grille, revised badging, slim LED headlights with a new 'Double J' signature, new LED rear lights inspired by those on the Jaguar I-Pace, plus new bumpers front and rear.

An all-new dashboard features inside, with a central 11.4-inch touchscreen infotainment screen running JLR's latest Pivi Pro system. New door moldings feature an improved grab handle, while upgraded cabin filtration also features. Open-pore wood and aluminum trim is used alongside leather, which covers new seats with wider cushioning and improved heating, cooling and massage functions where fitted.

That Pivi Pro infotainment system, Jaguar claims, is displayed on a screen three times brighter than before, and has been designed to make commonly used settings easy to find with the minimum number of button taps. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto feature, while options include wireless phone charging with signal-boost capability. On SE and HSE cars there's a 12.3-inch digital instrument display, while a head-up display is also available.

The F-Pace will benefit from future over-the-air updates for its various on-board systems, negating the need for a dealer visit when updates are due. Other technological highlights include active road noise cancellation to improve refinement, 'Guardian Mode' to alert owners if their car is used within certain times, and a comprehensive suite of active driver assistance and safety systems.
