Mercedes A-Class hybrid MPG & CO2 emissions

On paper, the Mercedes A 250 e is a hugely efficient car, and although you may struggle to match the claimed figures in actual driving, the real-world results we saw were very promising. Extremely low CO2 emissions are good news for your wallet and conscience, while a swift charging time means you’ll be able to maximise efficiency by keeping the car’s 10.6kWh (usable) battery topped up as you go about daily life.

Mercedes A-Class hybrid range, MPG & CO2 emissions

Mercedes’ claim of up to 353mpg fuel economy is a real attention-grabber, but as always with plug-in hybrids, it’s best taken with a pinch of salt. To get anywhere near this figure, you’ll need to have a fully charged battery and use fully electric power as much as possible, coasting and being incredibly careful with your right foot.

On our varied test route – around 30 miles or so of driving on motorways, fast A-roads and urban routes – the A 250 e erred towards using electric power as much as possible and displayed its maximum 99.9mpg readout. We also found that the claimed 53-mile electric range is fairly accurate, with the projected range on the dashboard coming up just two miles short.

Charge time

Mercedes claims a charging time of an hour and 45 minutes from a standard 7.4kW wallbox from 10% (where you’re likely to leave your car most often) to 100%. It’ll charge from a domestic supply using a three-pin plug, too, but at a much slower rate.
