The seven-year/80,000-mile warranty provided with all MG models sold in the UK is an important statement of confidence by the brand in the long-term dependability of its products, and should give private buyers who intend to hold on to the car longer than the average finance customer peace of mind in particular. Safety is assured by a strong performance in Euro NCAP crash-testing for the HS when it was evaluated in 2019.

MG HS Plug-In reliability & problems

The Chinese-owned reincarnation of MG has been around for quite a while now and all its models use parts and systems sourced from the wider SAIC group, which builds millions of cars every year, so reliability should be good. The HS wasn't rated individually in the most recent 2021 edition of the Driver Power customer satisfaction survey, although the smaller ZS did feature in 41st place, with an overall satisfaction rating of 86%.

Safety

You might think a less established brand like MG would struggle to match the mainstream when it came to crash safety, but that's not the case at all: the HS was awarded the maximum five-star rating in independent Euro NCAP crash-testing back in 2019, with a very impressive 92% score for adult occupant protection.

The car is also loaded to the gunwales with the latest active safety technology. The 'MG Pilot' suite of driver assistance features comprises active emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection, lane-keeping assistance with lane-departure warning, traffic-jam assist, intelligent speed-limit assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alerts and intelligent high-beam assist.
