New Ford E-Transit van: 2024 updates to save 20 seconds on every delivery

Ford has updated the E-Transit for 2024 with more standard kit and several technological enhancements

The Ford Transit has long been the dependable workhorse of the British tradesperson and a fully-electric E-Transit version was introduced last year. However, the zero-emissions van is set to be futureproofed further by a new updated model that’s set to go on sale in 2024.

Ford says the revised Ford E-Transit is designed to ‘boost productivity’ with its raft of technological updates. Key to all of this is the 12-inch touchscreen that now comes as standard on all models; this is now paired with an eight-inch fully-digital instrument cluster, while the E-Transit’s infotainment system runs Ford’s latest SYNC4 software – as seen in the Ford Mustang Mach-E.

Standard safety kit has seen a boost in the form of pre-collision assist to work in conjunction with the autonomous emergency braking system, as well as an automatic speed limiter which uses data from the sat nav to stop you from getting a speeding ticket. Things like a 360-degree reversing camera, adaptive cruise control and blind-spot monitoring are available as options.

For the first time, the E-Transit is now also available with 5G connectivity – not only will this allow owners to keep connected with clients wherever they go, Ford also says it will enable over-the-air updates. This means that if any new features become available over time, owners will simply be able to download them directly to their van – provided it has the hardware to use them.

Another new feature is the ‘Delivery Assist’ function which, as the name suggests, is designed to make the lives of multi-drop delivery drivers much easier. This system automatically shifts the van into ‘Park’, activates the hazard lights and locks any doors not used by the driver to save, according to Ford, roughly 20 seconds of time per delivery.

As before, the 2024 Ford E-Transit is powered by a 64kWh (useable) battery, mated to either a 181bhp or 265bhp electric motor. Exact performance figures are yet to be confirmed, but we expect the new E-Transit to match the old model’s 166-196-mile range estimate.

Pricing for the updated model will be revealed later this summer, with order books opening soon after. Ford has also revealed another electric van recently, in the form of the smaller E-Transit Custom. A plug-in version of the Transit Courier, called the E-Transit Courier, was unveiled earlier in 2023, which is rumoured to share its underpinnings with the forthcoming electric Ford Puma SUV.
