New car registrations: does having the newest number plate matter?
Take part in our survey where we as you whether having the latest car registration still carries any weight
Projecting the right image is very important when it comes to cars: whether it be the badge on the bonnet, the size of your alloy wheels or the green stripe on your licence plate to indicate your car’s an EV. Speaking of number plates, does having the latest registration number still carry any car park kudos?
Introduced in 2001, the current number plate system produces a new plate designation every March and September. The March plates show the year of issue (‘04’ for the 2000s, ‘14’ for the 2010s and ‘24’ for the 2020s) while number plates given out between September and February have 50 added to that previous number (‘54’ for the 2000s, ‘64’ for the 2010s and ‘74’ for the 2020s etc.).
But while having the latest numberplate may have held some cachet in the past, do people still care in 2024? As we approach the arrival of the ‘24’ registration in March, we’ve set up a survey to find out whether YOU – our DrivingElectric readers – think such a thing still carries any weight.
