The previous-generation Captur was a big seller for Renault, but the latest version is still a relative newcomer, so it's early days to be drawing firm conclusions about its long-term reliability. The good news is that the French brand has an excellent reputation for safety, which is upheld here, backed up by good Euro NCAP scores and plenty of on-board safety and driver assistance equipment.

Although the latest Captur hasn't been on sale long enough for its long-term reliability to be properly assessed, we can refer to the 2020 Driver Power survey results for the car it replaced. The first-generation Captur couldn't have done much worse, finishing 75th out of 75 cars. This score takes into account general owner satisfaction, while nearly a fifth of owners reported experiencing a fault with their cars. Thankfully, we reckon the new model is far better in every department – which bodes well for an improvement in owner satisfaction and reliability.

Safety

While the latest Captur's strong five-star safety rating from Euro NCAP is impressive, it's joined by a long list of active safety and driver-assistance technologies that should help mitigate accidents. Autonomous emergency braking, cruise control, traffic sign recognition and a speed limiter are all standard, as is hill-start assistance, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance and automatic headlights and wipers.

There's also E-Call, which can automatically contact emergency services if the car's airbags are deployed. A 360-degree parking camera is optional on higher trim levels, but adaptive cruise control is only available to specify on some purely petrol and diesel-engined Captur models for now.
