Volkswagen Tiguan eHybrid boot space, seating & practicality

You lose some boot space to the hybrid system’s battery, but the plug-in Tiguan is still a pretty practical family SUV

Like many other plug-in hybrids, the Tiguan eHybrid takes a practicality hit due to the packaging required for the hybrid powertrain, particularly in regards to boot capacity. However, there’s still plenty of cabin space and luggage room on offer, making it more than capable of the usual family-car duties.

Volkswagen Tiguan eHybrid interior space, storage & comfort

Not only is this second-generation Tiguan more generous than its predecessor when it comes to rear legroom, it’s also more spacious for rear-seat passengers than rivals like the Ford Kuga. Clever packaging means headroom is good, and there’s enough room in the back for adults to get comfortable. There’s also plenty of handy storage cubbies, with a big glovebox, large door bins and a deep central storage area under the armrest.

Boot space

Due to the presence of the 13.8kWh battery for the hybrid powertrain, the Tiguan eHybrid loses 139 litres of boot space compared to the standard car. But that still leaves you with a respectable 476-litre luggage compartment with the rear seats up – more than the 390 litres on offer in the recently facelifted Vauxhall Grandland Hybrid. However, it’s over 100 litres less than you get in the plug-in Ford Kuga, Hyundai Tucson or Toyota RAV4.
