There’s no road tax to pay

If you have a car that doesn’t emit any CO2 at all – something only electric cars and the small number of hydrogen-powered cars can manage – you’ll not pay any road tax at all. That’s something not even hybrids or plug-in hybrids can boast.

Not only that, but electric cars make a very shrewd company-car choice, too, thanks to a 13% rating. That makes them cheap now, but such is the way Benefit-in-Kind (BiK) tax is calculated, they’ll increase a little to 16% in the 2019/20 tax year, before hitting a rock-bottom 2% in 2020/21. That’ll make them almost cheaper than walking!

Regardless of road tax, electricity will still be far cheaper than petrol or diesel. All is revealed on the next page.
