EV Deal of the Day: the BMW iX1 is a capable all-rounder for £291 per month
Keen handling, slick infotainment and fabulous build quality help the impressive BMW iX1 stand out from compact SUV rivals
- Good to drive
- High-quality cabin
- Easy-to-use onboard tech
If you’re after an accomplished family car that’s reasonably affordable but still offers a premium edge, then the BMW iX1 is a fine choice. Its solidly built cabin and interior quality raise the game compared with other mainstream compact SUVs, while BMW’s brilliant infotainment se-tup is easy to use. The iX1 is good to drive, although the ride can be a little firm, and if you’re prioritising comfort, then the Audi Q4 e-tron is a better option. But with a decent level of standard equipment, a five-star Euro NCAP safety rating and solid efficiency, the iX1 is certainly worth a look.
This two-year PCH (Personal Contract Hire) deal is from Xcite Leasing through Carwow, and requires an initial payment of £3,787.56, followed by monthly payments of £291.13, while there is a 5,000-mile annual limit.
The Sport model offered in this particular deal comes with an impressive level of standard equipment, including 17-inch alloys (which help to improve an otherwise firm ride), LED headlights, front and rear parking sensors, a reversing camera, cruise control, a powered tailgate, dual-zone climate control, and twin digital displays using BMW’s Operating System 9 with integrated navigation and smartphone connectivity.
With its 64.8kWh battery and single electric motor driving the front wheels, this eDrive20 model produces 201bhp and takes care of the 0-62mph benchmark sprint in 8.6 seconds. It does have the lowest overall range in the line-up, however, with an official maximum of 293 miles from a single charge. The upside is that the iX1 is pretty efficient and, when we ran a similar model in M Sport specification, we managed an average of 3.7kWh - which means you’re more likely to see around 240 miles before needing to top up the battery.
Overall practicality is good, but not quite class leading, with the iX1’s 490-litre boot space a little short of the Audi Q4 e-tron’s 520-litre capacity. You do get rear seats that fold in a 40:20:40 configuration, though, and plenty of storage options throughout the cabin, while there’s plenty of front seat and steering wheel adjustment, allowing you to find a comfortable driving position.
