Company-car tax is one of the biggest motoring expenses for many in the UK, and for plug-in hybrids like this C5 Aircross, it's calculated using a mixture of electric range and CO2 emissions. The C5's 31-33g/km of CO2 and 38-mile range are enough to get in the 12% Benefit-in-Kind (BiK) band, but many rivals match or better this – the Kia Sportage PHEV, for example, is in the 8% band thanks to its 40-plus mile electric range.

If you're buying privately rather than running a company car, the savings aren't as clear-cut, as you have to factor in a higher list price than the petrol version of the C5 Aircross. You should still see better fuel economy from the hybrid, though, as long as you keep the battery topped up as much as you can and especially if you mostly do short, local journeys on electric power alone.

Citroen C5 Aircross Hybrid insurance group

The C5 Aircross Hybrid falls into insurance group 28 in both Shine and C-Series Edition specifications. That's a few groups higher than the entry-level front-wheel-drive version of the mechanically identical Vauxhall Grandland Hybrid, which is rated in group 24.

Warranty

Citroen gives the C5 Aircross Hybrid the same guarantee that applies to all its new cars sold in the UK, with no mileage limit in the first two years, and up to three years' cover as long as you mileage does not exceed 60,000. The C5 Aircross Hybrid's battery is covered by a separate eight-year/100,000-mile warranty, which will see the battery pack replaced free of charge if it can no longer hold at least 70% of its original power capacity during that time.

Servicing

Exact service intervals for the C5 Aircross Hybrid have yet to be confirmed, but are likely to be similar to the 12-month/16,000-mile interval of its sister models, the aforementioned Vauxhall Grandland Hybrid and Peugeot 3008 Hybrid.

Road tax

Like all hybrids (plug-in or otherwise), the C5 Aircross gets a £10 discount on the standard £165-a-year UK VED (road tax) rate, so you'll pay £155 every 12 months to keep it on the road.
