EV Deal of the Day: affordable Dacia Spring for only £126 per month

In the market for a low-cost, no-frills EV? The compact Dacia Spring could be just the thing at a little over £30 per week

  • Easy to drive
  • Cheap to run
  • 140-mile range

The Dacia Spring is the first electric car from the budget-friendly manufacturer, and there’s much to like about this affordable, small electric car. Aside from its attractive, low pricing, the Spring offers solid on-road manners and impressive manoeuvrability plus, of course, it will be cheap to run. If you’re after a city runabout or a second set of wheels, Dacia’s latest offering has to be worth some consideration.

All-electric cars are rapidly becoming more accessible, both in terms of price and the increased variety now on offer. This four-year PCH (Personal Contract Hire) offer from Blue Chilli Leasing requires an initial payment of £1,874.74, followed by monthly instalments of just £126.23. And, if you plan on using the Spring as a back-up car, or for shorter urban trips, then this deal’s 5,000-mile annual limit should be fine.

This particular Spring model comes in Expression specification which, despite the car’s low-cost approach, still provides a decent level of standard equipment. Rear parking sensors, air-conditioning and cruise control all come as part of the package, while there’s a mounting point for your smartphone instead of a regular infotainment screen, and a seven-inch digital instrument panel. Active safety kit isn’t forgotten either, with emergency braking assist, lane-keep assist, and traffic-sign recognition all included.

For a relatively small car, the Spring still manages to offer decent space for up to four passengers, with the only concession being that rear legroom feels a bit tight. Overall practicality is good, with Isofix points on the two rear seats, and a 308-litre boot – a load capacity that easily outshines more expensive, battery-powered options such as the Vauxhall Corsa Electric (267 litres).

The Spring’s 140-mile range should be fine for daily urban adventures, while investing in a home charging set-up will allow you to return an empty battery back to 100 per cent charge in around five hours.
