  • Good onboard tech
  • Practical driving range
  • Comfortable

The second-generation Hyundai Kona Electric arrived in the UK in mid-2023, and came with a host of useful upgrades over its predecessor. First of all, it was bigger than the original car, which meant it offered improved practicality and plenty of space for five to travel in comfort. Overall refinement also took a big step forward, as did cabin quality, while the Korean manufacturer packed in the latest onboard technology. Hybrid and regular petrol cars are available alongside the all-electric model, but the EV’s blend of decent performance, strong range and low running costs are hard to ignore.

Carparison Leasing through Carwow, are offering a two-year PCH (Personal Contract Hire) deal for a Kona Electric Long Range Advance model - requiring an initial payment of £2,885.64, followed by monthly payments of £215.57. It does have a 5,000-mile annual limit, so be sure to check that this is sufficient for your day-to-day needs.

The entry-level Advance specification still features a good level of standard equipment, including 17-inch alloys, LED headlights, cruise control, front and rear parking sensors, dual-zone air-conditioning, and a 12.3-inch infotainment screen with integrated navigation. Other practical highlights include a heat pump that helps to boost efficiency, keyless entry and start, rear seats that fold in a 40:20:40 configuration, and a Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) system that allows the car's battery to power other devices using an internal three-point plug.

Hyundai claims that the 215bhp Kona Electric Long Range model can cover up to 319 miles on a single charge, while 255Nm of instantly available torque means a 0-62mph time of 7.8 seconds. Topping up the battery at a public rapid charger (from 10 to 80 per cent) should take around 34 minutes, while hooking up to a 7kW wallbox at home should see a 10 to 100 per cent charge take around eight hours.
