New cheap Vauxhall Corsa Electric YES Edition says ‘no’ to expensive EV prices
New entry-level Vauxhall Corsa Electric arrives with exclusive red paintwork and a £5,500 cheaper starting price
Is it possible for the Vauxhall Corsa Electric to cost under £30,000? Well, a newly-revealed special-edition model answers this question with a resounding ‘YES’, offering a starting price of just £26,895 – £100 less than an MG4.
The new Vauxhall Corsa Electric YES Edition (yes, that is its name) has been launched in conjunction with the brand’s ‘Yes, of Corsa’ advertising campaign and undercuts the next-cheapest Vauxhall Corsa Electric Design model by £5,550.
It isn’t some cut-price model with a tiny battery, either; the YES Edition gets the same 50kWh unit fitted to pre-facelift models of the Corsa Electric. However, thanks to some efficiency upgrades, this still provides an electric range of up to 221 miles on a single charge. A 134bhp electric motor also means the 0-62mph sprint is dispatched in 8.9 seconds.
Visually, the Vauxhall Corsa Electric YES Edition takes several cues from the sporty GS model, with a contrasting black roof and door mirrors, as well as a gloss black set of 16-inch alloy wheels. Buyers can choose from one of four paint shades – the exclusive Record Red, as well as Arctic White, Carbon Black or Graphic Grey – and on the inside, YES Edition cars get a pair of front sports seats, complete with complementary red accents.
In terms of standard equipment, the YES Edition is quite generous, especially given its rock-bottom starting price. All examples get LED headlights, digital dials, a 10-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, heated front seats, keyless entry, cruise control, lane-keep assist and rear parking sensors. Vauxhall has also teamed up with supermarket Tesco to offer one year of free charging while you shop.
So, what’s the catch? Well, the Vauxhall Corsa Electric YES Edition will only be available to order online, with order books set to open on 17 April and deliveries to commence in May. It’s unknown for how long this model will be offered and Vauhxall has not limited production to a set number of examples, we expect the Corsa Yes to be available for as long as the aforementioned ad campaign lasts.
That said, the YES Edition makes the Vauxhall Corsa Electric now the cheapest five-door EV you can buy, undercutting the likes of the MG4 and BYD Dolphin, which is yet to go on sale in its cheapest ‘Active’ specification. That said, the £23,000 Citroen e-C3 is set to arrive later this year, as is the new Dacia Spring, which could start from around £16,000 – £10k less than the Corsa.
