Mercedes EQS facelift gets three-pointed star headlights, and more
The facelifted Mercedes EQS has been spotted testing, concealing some bold design tweaks and perhaps even a longer range
As if a giant Mercedes badge on the bumper wasn’t enough, the facelifted Mercedes EQS has been spotted testing in Germany with new three-pointed star headlights, as well as a handful of other visual and technological upgrades.
The Mercedes EQS first made its debut back in 2021 and while many newer models such as the EQE SUV have adopted some of its visual cues, the German giant is already looking to the future in terms of Mercedes design philosophy.
You see, the Mercedes Concept CLA Class debuted last year at the International Motor Show in Germany and showcased the maker’s latest approach to automotive design. This consists of a heavy focus on the brand’s iconography, with the Mercedes three-pointed star emblem integrated into the headlights and tailights, as well as the aerodynamic trim pieces on the wheels, the panoramic glass roof and illuminated elements on the grille.
While we don’t expect all of these to come to fruition on the production car, we can already see Mercedes is preparing to implement its iconic logo into the headlights of the facelifted EQS. That said, the test cars that we have seen have left much of the taillights undisguised, suggesting that the updated car is likely to retain the full-width lightbar arrangement of the outgoing model.
On the inside, we suspect very little will change for this latest EQS; Merc’s MBUX system is already one of the most hi-tech on the market, and that’s not even mentioning the 56-inch Hyperscreen which actually comprises three separate displays. This is currently offered as an expensive option, or as standard on top models and we expect this will continue to be the case, even after the EQS is updated.
What may change, however, are some of the graphics on the screen, as well as perhaps some of the interior upholstery options. Otherwise, we expect the majority of changes – other than those already mentioned – to occur under the metal.
As of the time of writing, all Mercedes EQS models sold in the UK are equipped with a huge 118kWh battery – the largest currently fitted to any production car available here in Britain. This, according to Mercedes, provides a range of up to 441 miles on the entry-level EQS 450+.
However, with the facelifted Tesla Model 3 capable of up to 421 miles and Lucid Air supposedly efficient enough for a range of over 500 miles, Mercedes will probably be looking to extend its range superiority gap further. While we don’t expect any huge changes in terms of hardware (i.e battery specifications), more thermal management or other software tweaks could see the EQS capable of figures that close in on the 500-mile mark.
