Gridserve’s new lab aims to boost electric car charging point reliability

Gridserve’s new laboratory will be used to help identify and fix network faults more quickly and improve reliability when connecting EVs with chargers

Gridserve laboratory

Gridserve, one of the UK’s biggest electric car charging network providers, has invested in a brand-new laboratory which it plans to use for researching and improving the reliability and speed of its public charging stations.

The new facility is located in Swindon and will allow Griderve’s researchers to test its systems on a number of different electric vehicles. The findings will then be used to help towards reducing the time it takes to diagnose and rectify any live charging issues that are reported by the network’s customers.

Eventually, once the common faults are figured out and repair times are minimised, this should help contribute towards increasing the rate of successful first-time connections and, ultimately, the reliability of Gridserve’s charging stations in general.

This move should be beneficial to large numbers of UK motorists, too, as the Gridserve network currently accounts for around 1,200 chargers in 90 separate locations across the country.

Not only does this new laboratory have the potential to improve Griderve’s reputation with its customers, but the brand is also aiming to contribute towards the general improvement of EV infrastructure and reassuring more drivers that they can easily make the switch to an electric car.

Pete Bishop, the brand’s Chief Technology Officer, stated “the reliability of networks like the Gridserve Electric Highway is critical to solidifying consumer confidence.”

Hello, I’m Shane and I’m the senior content editor both here at DrivingElectric and at our sister title Auto Express. Although I can trace my professional roots back to the radio and podcasting world, my passion (or borderline obsession) with cars saw me switch over to motoring journalism in 2021. From the very start I have been fortunate enough to try out the latest and greatest electric cars on the market, and I’m proud to help people like you make the right EV buying decisions.
