EV Deal of the Day: impressive Renault Megane E-Tech for only £204 per month

The stylish Renault Megane E-Tech is a fine all-electric family car that drives well, has a large boot and comes with lots of standard equipment

  • Google-powered infotainment system
  • Stylish exterior
  • Big boot

The Renault Megane E-Tech is a good looking family car, providing efficient all-electric drive that should help to keep day-to-day running costs reasonably low. But the French EV’s talent is not limited solely to its electric powertrain; it also offers a big boot, good interior storage, along with a surprisingly high quality feel to the cabin and an impressive google-powered infotainment system.

As with most family car purchases, the price you pay is particularly important, and we think this  two-year PCH (Personal Contract Hire) deal from Select Car Leasing, through our parent site Carwow, provides great value for money. It requires a £2,736.12 initial payment, followed by monthly payments of just £203.51, while there’s an annual mileage limit of 5,000 miles which should be enough to cover most people’s needs.

Renault offers a generous level of standard kit with the Megane, although you’ll benefit from additional onboard equipment and useful features because the model in this deal comes in mid-range Techno specification. 20-inch alloys, adaptive cruise control, dual-zone climate control, a wireless smartphone charging pad and a Harman Kardon audio system are all included, along with a 12-inch multimedia screen with integrated navigation.

While there’s good room upfront in the Megane E-Tech, the rear seats are a little tighter, but unless you need to regularly transport taller passengers we wouldn’t view this a dealbreaker. In fact, there’s lots to praise in Renault’s electric family hatch; the boot is a sizable 440 litres (bigger than you’ll find in a Volkswagen ID.3 or MG4), while it’s comfortable and easy to drive thanks to its compact proportions.

There’s just a single power option available for the Megane E-Tech: a 60kWh battery with a front-mounted electric motor providing 217bhp. 0-62mph is covered off in 7.5 seconds which is more on the brisk side than genuinely rapid, although the 300Nm of instantly available torque means it’s quick off the mark, which can be beneficial in and around town.

With a claimed maximum range of up to 280 miles, planning any longer journeys shouldn’t be too much hassle. The Megane E-Tech can charge at up to 130kW, meaning a 10 to 80 per cent top-up from a suitably fast ultra-rapid public charger should take around 30 minutes. During our own test we found overall efficiency wasn’t quite as good as we’d hoped, but that was in a model without a heat pump - which this techno car includes - so we’d expect the range to be preserved a little better in colder temperatures.

All of our EV Deal of the Day choices are chosen from the providers on our parent site Carwow. Our experts choose the best deals on cars we’re happy to recommend.
