The Jeep Renegade's boxy styling means there’s plenty of headroom all around, but this is still a small SUV, so you won’t be able to fit a six-foot passenger in the back behind a similarly tall driver – or at least, not for long.

Still, the upright styling of the Renegade and its height means that this is one of the few cars in the class to give you a traditional SUV driving position. Plus, the boxy outsides mean it’s easy to judge where the car's corners are when parking.

Jeep Renegade 4xe interior space, storage & comfort

Passenger space is plentiful up front and Jeep has done well to fill the interior with practical touches, including a pair of front cupholders, multiple USB slots and plenty of cubbyholes for smaller items, including one dedicated to smartphones. It’s only in the rear seats where things start to feel tight for an adult to spend a long time in.

Boot space

The Renegade is a compact car, which means the boot has had to suffer slightly in terms of overall volume to make room for the hybrid system. The presence of a battery pack means it measures in at 330 litres – some 20 litres down on the standard car's already slightly pokey load area. Still, at least the space provided is usefully square. Fold the seats down, and there's 1,277 litres of space in total. Equip the Renegade with the optional 40/20/40 split folding rear seat to maximise versatility.

Towing

The Renegade 4xe isn’t a good tow car because its maximum limit is 1,150kg. Perhaps surprisingly, that’s even less than the 1,300kg of a Kia Niro, which is a shame because you'd think the Jeep's four-wheel drive might do a good job of pulling a caravan out of a damp field.
