Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo range, battery & charging
While its ultra-rapid charging capability is superb, the Porsche’s electric estate does fall behind some of its rivals when it comes to range
Model | Range | Wallbox charge time | Rapid charge time |
---|---|---|---|
Taycan 4 | 304 miles | 13hrs 30mins (0-100%, 7.4kW) | 23mins (5-80%, 270kW) |
Taycan 4S | 304 miles | 13hrs 30mins (0-100%, 7.4kW) | 23mins (5-80%, 270kW) |
Taycan Turbo | 301 miles | 13hrs 30mins (0-100%, 7.4kW) | 23mins (5-80%, 270kW) |
Taycan Turbo S | 285 miles | 13hrs 30mins (0-100%, 7.4kW) | 23mins (5-80%, 270kW) |
The Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo shares its platform, charging system and battery with its sleeker four-door sister car. The slightly heavier estate variant can cover around 300 miles on a charge, which is a bit less than the regular Taycan (up to 315 miles) and Sport Turismo (up to 305 miles). Like the other electric models, the Cross Turismo boasts rapid charging speeds far quicker than some rivals can manage.
In July 2022, Porsche announced a software update that could be applied to all Taycans manufactured since the car went on sale. Among other features, it added the capability for the front motor in four-wheel-drive Taycans to disengage almost completely when decelerating or cruising at a steady speed. It also improved the thermal management of the battery. Taken together, these upgrades should result in better real-world range and charging times for all Taycans.
Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo range
Unlike the normal Taycan, the Cross Turismo estate is only available with the larger 93.4kWh battery, so all bar the top-of-the-range Turbo S version can cover around 300 miles on a charge, while the Turbo S has a maximum range of 285 miles.
Regardless of which variant you use for comparison, however, the Cross Turismo’s range isn't as good as rivals like the Tesla Model S Plaid (373 miles) and Mercedes-AMG EQS 53 4MATIC+ (up to 347 miles). The Porsche’s sister car, the Audi e-tron GT, also has a slightly better range of 308 miles – or 299 if you go for the 590bhp RS version – though neither currently comes in the estate bodystyle.
Charge time
Because of the large 93.4kWh battery that all versions of the Taycan Cross Turismo use, charging times are fairly lengthy if you're using a home wallbox. A full recharge will take around 13 and a half hours if you use a wallbox capable of up to 7.4kW, however, you can upgrade from the standard 11kW AC on-board charger to a 22kW charger for extra £1,296.
If you do upgrade the on-board charger and install Porsche’s recommended wallbox (the Anderson A2, which can reach speeds of up to 22kW if your home has three-phase electricity), you’ll be able to fully top up the battery in just over four hours.
The Cross Turismo also boasts 800-volt charging – like the Audi e-tron GT, Kia EV6 and Hyundai Ioniq 5 – which allows it to charge at up to 270kW if you can find a fast enough ultra-rapid charging point. Use one of the 350kW units capable of that speed and you’ll top up the battery from 5-80% in 23 minutes.
