This generation of Clio has one of the best interiors of anything you can buy in the supermini class, and nothing changes on that front with the E-TECH Hybrid version. There are some subtle blue highlights dotted about the cabin to remind you that you're driving the 'electrified' version, but otherwise all is as it was before.

Renault Clio E-TECH Hybrid dashboard

The Clio's dashboard prioritises ergonomics more than ever, with all major controls seemingly raised to fall within easy reach for the driver. A touchscreen infotainment screen – available in two sizes – sits square in the centre, angled towards the driver; it's easily reached and operated unlike the equivalents on some rivals. There’s a lot of plastic on show inside, but the majority of it feels of good quality and it’s all well put-together.

Equipment, options & accessories

The Clio is offered in Evolution, Techno, R.S. Line and E-TECH Engineered trims. Evolution comes with 16-inch alloys, LED headlights and daytime running lights, manual air-conditioning, power-adjustable and heated door mirrors, cruise control and electric front windows, plus automatic lights and wipers. There's also a seven-inch colour touchscreen with navigation, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as rear parking sensors and foglights.

On top of Evolution’s entry level features, Techno brings dark-tinted rear windows, 17-inch alloys, chrome detailing and a shark-fin antenna. Inside, the interior is refreshed with grey accents, as well as dark-grey pinstriped upholstery. R.S. Line cars get a slightly sportier styling and a different set of 17-inch alloys, plus faux carbon interior trim, leather steering wheel and gear selector, a larger 9.3-inch colour touchscreen and 10-inch colour digital dashboard display. E-TECH Engineered tops the range with features including 17-inch E-Tech diamond-cut alloys with gold detailing, black Renault logos front and rear, sports front and rear bumpers, a rear spoiler, dark roof lining and aluminium pedals.

Infotainment, apps & sat nav

It's worth upgrading to get the eye-catching 9.3-inch portrait-orientated screen that dominates the centre of the dashboard in not-dissimilar fashion to the one in the much more expensive Tesla Model S electric car.
