Porsche Macan: boot space, seating & practicality

The Macan offers a reasonable amount of space inside, but the sloping roofline takes its toll

Porsche Macan interior space, storage & comfort

The new Porsche Macan is 86mm longer than the model it replaced, but it’s still lacking when it comes to rear passenger space. The sloping roofline helps to improve the aerodynamics of this SUV, but at the cost of interior room.

Taller adults will feel a bit snug if they’re sitting in the back, while fitting the optional panoramic roof will only impede their headroom further. The Sports Seats which come as standard on the Turbo reduce the overall legroom, too.

Boot space

The Macan’s boot is also affected by the car’s sloping roofline but there’s still a useful 540 litres on offer, although this drops to 480 litres for the Turbo. The charging cables can be kept up front in the 84-litre space under the bonnet.

If you need further boot space and aren’t carrying any passengers in the back, the rear seats will fold 40:20:40, which boosts capacity to 1,348 litres.

If you’re planning on using the Macan as a family car, it’s probably best suited to two adults and two smaller children. If your youngsters aren’t actually that young and you’re carrying around four taller people instead, you may be better off with the Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo or Sport Turismo. Alternatively, rivals such as the BMW iX3 and Tesla Model Y also offer more overall space.
